A Message from Energistics
Jerry’s vision for what standards could mean for the energy industry were inspirational to many because of his passion and his ability to connect with people on a personal level. He was the unwavering force behind the strong growth of Energistics – from around 60 to over 125 corporate members – and the momentum of the National Data Repository and the Standards Leadership Council which he co-founded and co-chaired. His legacy will undoubtedly be carried on.
After joining in 2006 as EVP, Jerry led the successful rebranding of Energistics. As part of developing the eight Energistics Global Regions, he established a volunteer organization of members who assist in the localization and delivery of the Energistics message to their regional communities. Jerry was named COO in 2010 and became president and CEO in 2011. In May, 2014, Jerry received the Philip C. Crouse Cornerstone Award, cited for “fostering a global user community across standards organizations and dedication to the progression of open data exchange standards and data management practices.”
Jerry obtained his MS degree in science management from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. His industry experience included executive operations, business development, project management and pipeline construction assignments in Alaska, Oklahoma, Texas and the United Kingdom. He played a key role in the development and adoption of global e-business standards for the oil and gas industry. He was a founding member of the PIDX Europe Executive Committee and was on the Steering Committee of the United Nations Standard Products and Services Code.
Jerry touched so many of our lives; he was always kind, had a funny story to tell and had a passion for great food and drink – especially if part of an international adventure. While those in our industry will always think of Jerry as the Standards Champion that he was, his true legacy is that of a wonderful and devoted husband to Retha, loving dad to Jamie and Sarah, doting grandfather to Ella and Caroline, an inspiring mentor to those who worked with him, including Tracey Dancy, and a treasured friend to so many.
To carry on Jerry’s vision and the mission of Energistics, the Board of Directors has appointed Jana Schey (VP, Operations) as the interim CEO. Jana has been with Energistics for seven years and has over thirteen years in the oil and gas industry. Her passion and dedication to standards and to Energistics will serve her well in her new role.
